Hi, I'm dr. Susan block here at the Hollywood show with Grizzly Adams. Oh my god Dan Haggerty, how are you? Nice to have nice to see you nice to be here very nice to see you And I see your Grizzly as ever. Thank you very much trying to hold it together the best I can People come by and they say you look good and then somebody right came by and said I heard you died

So it's in between ups and downs, but we're still here. That's the Hollywood show folks So I yeah, I mean it's definitely less Grizzly actually very very well Taking care of beer. Oh, I kind of you know I think my kids grabbed a weed eater for Christmas and tuned that up

So I looked a little bit better than I used to but you got to take care of yourself So we trim up once in a while. Yeah, especially when you're used to having a bear as a co-star. I mean they're pretty Harry well my bear was actually a female she played a part of a male But she was really a female and when we were doing the show

I was an animal trainer for about 25 years and they said well now that we're gonna use you in the show And you're an animal trainer. We're gonna get a bear and I said well, you don't have to get a bear I've got a beautiful bear and they said terrific. Well, we'll call the bear Ben. I said well no way I said my bear is a female and the original Grizzly Adams James Capon Adams named his bear after George Washington's wife

And her name, you know like it was Martha Washington So I said we'll just call my bear Martha and they said no we can't have you living in the woods with a female bear And I'm going wait a minute. I know this is Hollywood But come on lassie was a boy and played the part of a girl

Mine's a girl played the part of a boy, but I don't know if Hollywood will ever get it right But we're doing the best we can Absolutely, and it is a real true life story. I mean Grizzly Adams was a 19th century dude 18 1875 worked the Barnum and Bailey a wonderful guy

actually accused of a crime that he didn't commit and He had a wonderful daughter named Peg and years later They squared him away and he got to meet his daughter and he did live in the woods Didn't have any animals except the bear and she came home one day and gave birth to two cubs

So he had three Grizzly bears and they packed all of his stuff for him The Indians thought he was quite a guy and he wrote on the back of his grizzly and the other two carried pots and pans So it was quite a sight going through the woods Yeah, and you've kind of picked up his legacy

I mean you came into acting through being an animal trainer or you were both well I did some films earlier I did muscle beach party and I did the snow tigers and a couple other films worked with Walt Disney and I was doing a film in Canada when they saw me catch a tiger off a horseback and the tiger jumped up and grabbed my horse and they said

That would be the guy for Grizzly Adams So they'd made the show once before with another actor and weren't crazy about it And they brought me down from Canada and they said would you like to do the movie? I said terrific. So we did a little Grizzly Adams film for a hundred and eighty five thousand dollars

It grows three hundred and fifty five million NBC picked it up as a series in the rest is history So you like animals? Well, they've been good to me the bear made more and I did she was a better actor So I got to go yeah with the with the bears and I'm happy enough

We're over here at the Lowe's Theater and across the street right in front of the Roosevelt Hotel I was lucky enough to get a star in the same day. I got it Sophie Lauren got her so it's Paul Newman may west Sophie Lauren Dan Haggerty So that's kind of an honor so I'll go by and feel the gum off of it and shine it up a little bit

Feel her and wow she was quite a hot animal in her day without a doubt It was an honor to meet Sophie and Charlton Heston was there so it was a real pleasure So how often have you been to the Hollywood show or is this your first time? This is my second Hollywood show, but I do some of them around the country in New Orleans and different places like that

And I just came back from Dubai I was lucky enough to be there for their fourth of July and I went over with the royal family fine falcons I'm a falconer my boy flies falcons for the government. So they invited me over there for the holidays So I got off the plane came over here and met everybody and sitting down and talking to you and just living life

Fourth of July in Dubai. Wow, that that's an interesting experience Well, everybody loves fireworks fireworks are like making love It just doesn't last long enough, but it looks pretty when it goes off And it was the biggest fireworks displayed that they've ever had so it was wonderful now speaking of making love and

Sex I mean there's now a new wing to the Hollywood show which features adult movies. How do you feel about that? well Dennis who owns a bunny ranch is a good friend of mine Dennis Hoff of course and Madame Suzette is like my sister and Dennis calls me and I was raised to be a priest

I was raised in the seminary from the time I was seven till I was 16 But I was raised Catholic, but I'm a very good devout Christian and I do marry people So Dennis says come on up to the bunny ranch and we're gonna have another wedding So I get up there and say hi and marry some people. So that's a lot of fun. So you

Officiate as a minister at weddings in the bunny ranch at the bunny rancher in Las Vegas or anywhere you want Really? So are these bunnies marrying their clients or who's getting married at the bunny ranch? Well Tom and his wife who are from Detroit they got married and they're real good friends of Dennis's so they got married at the bunny ranch and they said come on up

We're gonna have a wedding here. So that's what it was not get married at the bunny ranch with Grizzly Adams as your minister. I think that's just awesome Say hi to Thumper have a good time Speaking of animals and sex and you know about animals. Do you know about bonobos?

Yeah, oh sure the best I've raised a lot of chimps and no bows do not argue all they do is hug make love and have a Good time. So I'm a nobo fan. Yes. Well, I'm a big bonobo fan In fact, I'm writing a book about bonobos called the bonobo way about how humans can be inspired by our Kissing cousins who swing through the trees as well as with each other
